Sounds familiar? Yeaaaaah, London. Last week of September - that was my first trip to the city of all cities (in Europe) - to London.
What awaited me after landing? Rainy London - what a surprise! I didn't expect sun all day but I believe that weather can get you down sometimes. But London offers more than that!
TUESDAY
Beginning of my first sightseeing day was a bit stressfull - my Oyster Card was invalid and there were no cards available at the stand. Damn! And the train was so full too! Any impressions? Yes, bad impressions! This was meant to change soon. There is something magical about the Tower of London - historic spot with genious loci. That castle is so overwhelming, exhibitions in all the towers and buildings are exquisite (especially the one in the White Tower about armoury) and the Crown Jewels are simply magnificent. And coffee was only 2 GBP! That made my day. When I arrived to St.Paul's, it was already closed so I got me a muffin and I simply enjoyed the scenery. Actually, I had to bulk up for my evening climbing lesson in a sportscentre...so plus 1 cheesburger. Climbing was fun too - I didn't care what colour those plastic handles were, I just kept climbing. At the end, I made it for 4+ level (that means you climb the handles of one colour only). Am so proud of myself:-)
WEDNESDAY
Middle day of the week was a highly spiritual day - me and Pilki (half of Saw Brothers Ltd.) visited Westminster Abbey (but we ate Ben's Cookies before, which improved our mood), which is a place packed with history so much that I almost peed. Second part of the trip was Thames Cruise to Greenwich. We had just one hour to enjoy "hop to east part of the Earth-hop to west part of the Earth". But it was worth it...I checked my pics at home so I can declare "Yeah, I was at the Prime Meridian. Photos don't lie." Our cruise back to London was an adrenalin - we embarked to a ferry that wasn't ours to embark. This is how I became a black passenger. Fortunately, the black lady-conductor didn't check our tickets.
Wednesday spirituality included also a cultural event - Phantom of the Opera was a total success and nothing but superlatives would follow. Why aren't such thing happening here? Or they are and I am just not going to see them? Thank you Saw Brothers for being my companions on such unforgettable event.
THURSDAY
Thursday sightseeing included Buckingham Palace - but Elisabeth wasn't at home anyway - Trafalgar Square, Leicester Squra, Piccadilly Circus and also some Oxfort Street shopping. At the end I bought some books and a pair of jeans. That is not much but I had to leave a towel at Pilki's because my luggage was full and I was not able to fit it in.
In the evening we had a meeting with a friend of mine and his girlfriend. He is a Londoner, who worked in Brno but is back to London now. When he was in Brno, beer seemed impossible to agree on, but when I am in London, we meet up. Awesome!
