Retrospective

We all dream. We dream about what is going to come and forget to look back to brush off memories that were crucial for us - either good or bad. Almost every negative experience is later melted into a positive one. There are not many memories of this kind and only few of them become life-difining. I also posses a memory of this sort. In fact it is a first important experience in my life. It is a year I spent in a foreign country where I was thrown into a school life amongst kids I was not able communicate with and barriers were present on all fronts - because communism didn't make life easier anywhere. A year in Russia has been source of funny stories since we returned home (in 1989).
Last week my idea of visiting Russia came over again as my Father returned from a business trip to Moscow and Tver. Through his camera I virtually saw again our block, our kitchen window, my courtyard, my school, Volha River, my favourite beach, a cinema, bridges, a shop, main boulevard...and I came to conclusion that nothing has changed. Quite opposite - everything got even older and shabbier and noone is going to fix it. 20-year difference shrinks to a few moments only. But for old times sake, I want to see it with my own eyes again anyway.

I remember that first school day in September 1989, when I saw you in the hallway - with those bows in your head, looking familiar... What a friendship has started then! I think it it wasn't for the year in Russia and you starting to go to my school, we'd never met!!! I LOVE Russia for that!!! You are a friend for life time... It's a bit painful to say we know each other for 25 years and are real friends for almost 20 now (but we are not too old yet are we???)... Very positive outcome is this one;-) THANKS for making me go via Memory Lane again;-)
