September...I'll remember

September has started and even though we are still wearing short-sleeved T-shirts, the chill crawls up in through the open vents. A tiny moment of disconcentration and I am drowned in hot summer memories...but when I open my eyes again I see my suntanned hands typing my September post.
Last week I was on a sailing boat in Croatia. My colleague's boyfriend's friend's father owns a beautiful yacht - small one, but cute. Her name's Lucky. I got a week off at work and off we went. Lucky has the capacity of 6 people maximum. My idea was that I will lie on the board and sunbathe and that from time to time I will jump into the sea to cool down. All wrong. Our captain (crazy 23-year old guy) insisted on we learn to tie 3 types of knots, explained few basic rules and the - for blond pussies - complex system of using sails, motor and a rudder.
First Saturday cruise was breath-taking! Wind blew into the sails and played with our hair. Like Alice in Wonderland but this experience was so real. Especially when I was made to fall overboard - 40 meters underneath, sea all around me and Lucky was vanishing in the distance. Ouch - I have goosebumps even now!
Second trip on Sunday was different - wind was so strong and Lucky wen so fast that I felt like on a rollercoaster and my stomach went upside down in a few moments. Due to the strong wind we had to return to our domestic harbour in Tribunj and spend night there. Monday was a big day - longer cruise with a night in a lagoon at Kornati. Unfortunately a rope in genoa sail broke up and we had to return to Tribunj again....and were repairing the boat from Monday till Friday. Meanwhile we were able to take just short cruises using motor - best of them was to a family restaurant on a island famous for its fish food. We ordered little grilled octopuses, a squid and mussels. It was my first time eating an octupus and this one was really delicious. It was my first time eating a squid - a bit tough but tasty. It was my first time eating mussels - nothing special but there was so much garlic that I even don't know what it tasted like.
We spent Friday night in the lagoon with a marvelous view on a magic sunset. This is how I want to remember my first yachting trip - magic and "first" in all aspects. However, on the way back our motor blew up and we had to hitchhike. Have you ever hitched on a sea? Cool thing. We stopped a boat with 2 German pensioners who dragged us to Tribunj. They saved our lives. Otherwise I would be paddling somewhere near Croatian coast at the moment.
