My First Food Review

I don't think I'm a food expert but I have visited many restaurants and establishments of this kind that I can tell some difference. My dinner in Porta da Terra was quite an experince and therefore I think I may be competent enough to criticize slightly. Porta da Terra restaurant is situated in Modrice neighbourhood at the edge of Brno and the easiest way to get there is by car.

I had a discount voucher for a 4-course menu - carpaccio, broth soup, main course and dessert, including a welcome drink. The restaurant was quite cosy and when we entered we met our stinky waiter who had apparent problems with pronunciation of a word "voucher". It sounded more like a "voyager" and we had to hold our laugh. The starter - carpaccio with garlic baguette - came shortly after the drink. Portion was not big but tasty, side dish was modest and the hem of plate was covered with dried herbs. Yuck. Soup came right after - strong broth with a liver ball, which was accompanied by vegetables, origin of which was surely somewhere in the freezer. That is rather disappointing as fresh carrot would surely have done the job. Main course - mashed potates with bacon (served extra in a small bowl) and pork sirloin with mushroom sauce - was served on a cold plate (covered with dried herbs at the edges, again) so the sauce was all cold. :-( Pork was medium well and the sauce was tasty. The best came at the end - fried pancake with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream on top. Whipped cream was not "homemade" but from an common can bough in the supermarket. Pity because the pancake was the highlight of the menu.
To sum it up, I expected more from this restaurant and I don't think I will go there again. Would I recommend it to someone? Well, if you don't expect much, then yes.
