I have been reading Generation Y blog since I returned home from Cuba. Having seen the whole situation on the Island of Liberty I found so much truth in Yoani's articles that I was impatiently waiting for every post she made. Some volunteer translated the Spanish articles into Czech...God praise him/her. Recently I have not been paying attention much so I became really surprised when I found her post about a visit of an American actress Julia Stiles to Havana (Julia...aka Nicky Parsons in Bourne trilogy or Lumen in Dexter series).
Honestly it really suprised me as I thought that US residents are not allowed to travel into this marvellous country. Google Omnipresent - an article revealed that she was there on some humanitarian mission and she met with the most famous Cuban blogger Yoani Sanchez. Poor Yoani - she cannot leave the country as her request for visa has been declined for like what 8 times or more? Almost every blogger outside her country knows her and respects her for what she does for geek generation on Cuba and she is being invited to various events abroad, which she has to keep refusing because she doesn't have a visa and a passport. Blogging world is indignant with injustice, which Yoanni is handling with bitter smile but she simply has to accept the reality as is and has to try to publish her posts and be in touch with her friends and admirers. The regime vehemently prevents her from natural and usual functioning (yes, she is being watched by the Secret Service) like her access internet connection, sending text messages, travelling or acquiring food. You don't believe me? Read it! It's someone's life LIVE. The blog is available in Czech.
